 Workshop Objectives:

• Describe the characteristics of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), signs of narcissistic abuse, and the psychological impact on victims.
   
• Describe the types and sources of conflict—interpersonal, intrapersonal, and organizational—and the role of communication in escalation or resolution.
   
• Describe evidence-based therapeutic approaches (CBT, DBT, trauma-focused therapy) used in treating survivors of abuse and managing conflict.
   

• Identify behavioral patterns of narcissistic abuse, including gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and control.
   
• Identify appropriate assessment tools and indicators for evaluating narcissistic traits and abuse severity.
   
• Identify culturally relevant conflict dynamics and how cultural norms influence resolution styles and communication.
   

• Demonstrate clinical strategies for helping survivors of narcissistic abuse set boundaries, rebuild self-worth, and process trauma.
   
• Demonstrate conflict resolution techniques such as mediation, collaborative problem-solving, and cognitive-behavioral interventions.
   
• Demonstrate how to educate clients on narcissistic behaviors, emotional regulation, and self-care planning.
   

• Reflect on your emotional responses and clinical challenges when working with narcissistic abuse survivors.
   
• Reflect on personal conflict resolution styles and how they influence your therapeutic relationships.
   
• Reflect on how integrating trauma-informed care principles strengthens ethical and culturally responsive interventions.

Beverly McManus is a Nationally Certified Counselor by the NBBC. She is also licensed by the State Of Tennessee Health Related Boards as a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Service provider designation. She achieved her Masters in Psychology and her Doctorate in Education. In addition to her work in private practice as a counselor, she teaches seminars, marriage conferences, women’s retreats and has written two books.

Beverly began her private practice soon after gaining licensure in 2001. Being certified by Prepare-Enrich, She’s experienced in premarital and newlywed counseling. She’s also trained in Gottman’s approach to marriage therapy. Her style is goal oriented with a problem solving focus. She uses a variety of techniques learned over two decades of practice in helping people change habits prohibiting healthy relationships, and contributing to higher levels of anxiety and insecurity.
